Cereal makers are hoping to change the name of their iconic cereal after complaints from some customers.
The American Cereal Association (ACA) on Monday said it was calling for the name to be changed to Cereal Krispy, which is a name associated with the cereal maker.
“There’s a lot of controversy around it,” said ACA executive director Dan Hartman.
“We think that it’s important that it reflects the fact that it comes from a cereal that’s really popular.
We think the name is appropriate.”
“We also believe it’s more accurate to call it the Cereal Crispy Krispy.”
It’s been around for 40 years and the name hasn’t changed much in terms of taste.
“The name Cereal is associated with it because it’s cereal, so it’s a little bit of a nostalgic feeling for the cereal-loving public,” Hartman said.
He said the name was chosen to give a name to the product and help it stand out in the marketplace.
“It’s not going to change in the next five years,” he said.
But he said the group would be open to changing the name if other consumers had concerns about it.
“If there is any consumer dissatisfaction, we’ll be open,” he added.
A number of cereal companies are also pushing for changes.
PepsiCo, which owns the cereal brand KFC, is pushing for a name change to its Kellogg’s brand.
Pepsi also wants to change its name to K-Cup, which has a similar flavor profile to KRS.
Nestlé, which also owns Kelloggs, is calling for a change to their K-cup cereal, too.
