General Mills cereal has become the top-selling cereal brand in the U.S., according to the U-S.
Department of Agriculture.
More than 1.4 million people in the United States bought the cereal in 2016, according to data from the Food and Drug Administration.
The U.K.-based firm is owned by PepsiCo, which makes a line of Twinkys and other sweet treats.
The company, which has been a part of the United Kingdom since the 1960s, recently reported earnings that beat analysts’ expectations.
Shares in General Mills closed down 5.7% in premarket trading Friday.
Shares of PepsiCo were up 4.3% in afternoon trading.
General Mills said Friday that its revenue from Twinkymets, Twinky-sides and Twinkie treats is expected to reach $7 billion in 2021, up from $6.7 billion last year.
It said it expects to add 1.8 million Twinkypies, 1.5 million Twinkle Twinks, 500,000 Twink-sies and 200,000 Peeps to its total Twinkiness sales in 2021.
